Who can attend the EUSP?

Students who have higher education and who are intending to continue his/her education – upgrade his/her professional skills or write and defend a candidate's thesis. Generally those who enter the EUSP continue their working in a field of humanities or social sciences in which they were interested before. Nevertheless there are no strict restrictions here. If you admit that science is limitless, and Russian Universities could not exist in isolation from the world science. If you are ready to grow and to familiarize yourself with the new, or perhaps even to change your specialization (for instance, out of mathematician to become economist or out of philologist to become sociologist). Then your right place is in the EUSP.

What and how they teach?

There are five departments in the EUSP: of History, of Art History, of Political Science and Sociology, of Economics, of Ethnology. In addition, the international program IMARS (International Master of Arts in Russian Studies) which is conducted in the English language successfully operates here. This program is oriented to foreign students specialized on study of Russia and Russian culture.
Complete cycle of study on each of the EUSP departments consists of two independent from each other stages:
• Program of professional retraining for master's degree specialists (so-called master’s program)
• Program of professional development for post graduated level specialists (so-called post graduated program)
The EUSP per se and formally is a postgraduate study, where students not only work independently on writing their thesis but also learn. The European University at Saint Petersburg has a license for realization of educational activities according with educational programs of postgraduate curses with specializations in “Social structure, social institutes and progresses” and “Political institutes, ethnopolitics’ conflictology, national and political processes and technologies” (License A № 166540 of 25.07.2006), and also according with program of professional retraining and development in the field of humanities and social sciences (License А № 101619 of 17.02.2003).

At the first level of professional retraining program students attend lectures, make speeches during seminars. Basic form of academic reporting is written work (essay, review or suchlike). Knowledge obtained at the first stage of study could become a kind of “springboard” for writing candidate’s thesis. Second stage – postgraduate course – in the EUSP imply first of all independent work on chosen topic and individual consultations of scientific adviser.
