EUSP Department of Economics is one of the few places in Russia providing MA-level economic education up to international standards. The Department has started since 1992 with graduate courses in economics delivered by world-class specialists from St. Petersburg. Since 1996 on the bases of this courses Department of Economics has launched its MA-level program in Economics, built up to international standards of high-quality economic education. The Department has been continuously updating and revising its educational program following developments in economic science and demands of the labor market on the basis of advice from International Advisory Board comprising top-class academics. In the last years the Department dynamically involves in its teaching and research activities colleagues from leading Western research centers and universities.

The Department ensures high-quality education through thorough selection process of faculty that includes 4 Doctors of Science, 10 Candidates of Science, 3 professors with PhD degrees from top-ranked Western universities. We are convinced that teaching modern advanced courses in economics is impossible without active academic work, and our faculty is engaged in research projects related to problems of macroeconomic policy, economic growth and development, game theory, econometrics, natural resources economics, etc. At the same time, studying economics is impossible without students’ own research work, and our MA program includes several different research projects on which students work under the guidance or, in some cases, alongside faculty members.

Efficiency of our educational strategy is confirmed by success of our graduates who work in financial and consulting companies, research centers, business media, as well as choose to continue in academia attending PhD programs in Europe and USA or working in Russian universities and academic institutions. About 30% of the Department’s graduates received PhD degrees in leading Western universities and Candidate of Science degrees in prestigious Russian universities or continue their education in various PhD-level programs.
