Добро пожаловать! Welcome! Willkommen!

European Chapter of the European University at Saint Petersburg Alumni Association:
European University at St. Petersburg Alumni (Europe) e.V.

alt

With a focus on strengthening the university and alumni activities, a number of dedicated alumni based in Europe gathered at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in November 2008 to found an institutional and legal framework for Europe‐based alumni to complement the existing international alumni network and support EUSP. As a result, an independent, self-governing and charitable association under German law with its seat in Berlin has been set up, which is able to collect income tax exempt donations from at least 14 European countries (Germany, UK, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Luxembourg) for EUSP, its researchers and students.

European University at St. Petersburg Alumni (Europe) e.V. (hereinafter:“EUSPA (Europe)”) aims to help the University remain as a free and independent academic institution and to provide it with moral and material assistance. It acts as a link between the University and its former members, other supporters and the general public, and will work to promote the University’s research and teaching in Europe and beyond.

EUSPA (Europe) maintains a network of former students of the University, and is developing contacts with other individuals and businesses interested in supporting the University’s development. It aims to promote links between the University and former students and other supporters, and also to foster personal and business ties among former students and other supporters.

This association, which is open to all alumni based in Europe (not only EU), the Mediterranean and Black Sea area as well as to other supporting members, serves as a vehicle of representing alumni vis‐à-vis EUSP, donors and the public, for the democratic formulation of positions, to generate donations and raise funds for the university. It strives to improve the informal alumni network through networking and cooperation with our fellow EUSP alumni in Russia, North America and worldwide and derive benefits for its members, including the organization of alumni activities.

The alumni and supporters aim to provide assistance by raising awareness (promotional work) and by fundraising. The organization promotes the University and its programs, in particular the International MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies (IMARES) and the MA in Russian Culture and the Arts (MARCA), to potential students, and functions as a knowledge centre to answer questions from those interested in the University and its work. The alumni and friends raise funds from former students of the University, businesses and commercial organizations, and other bodies such as charitable foundations, and uses those funds at its own discretion to provide support for the University, its students and potential students.

The association currently does not charge membership fees from alumni members, but members and other interested parties are encouraged to make voluntary donations. As a not-for-profit organization, EUSPA (Europe) uses financial resources at its disposal to provide support for the University, its students and potential students. Any use of financial resources, except donations directed to specific purposes, will be at the discretion of EUSPA (Europe) and in accordance with the statutes of the association.

EUSP Alumni (Europe) e. V. is a legal entity entirely separate from EUSP, although activities are coordinated with EUSP’s Development team and administration to ensure outcomes, which are mutually beneficial to the goals of both EUSP and the association. Decisions are made and officers elected by the meeting of members in accordance with our statutes. The 3 members of the Board of EUSP Alumni (Europe) e. V. execute the decisions of the assembly and manage day-to-day business and ad-hoc business. Apart from the German tax authorities, which are watching over compliance with charitable status, 2 elected cash auditors independently verify the association’s finances at least once a year. We welcome new members to our association.

We are united not only by fond memories of EUSP & St. Petersburg and a sense of wanting to give back to an institution and a community which gave a lot to us, but also in our understanding and appreciation of EUSP’s singular position in Russia today, which gives the goal of a strong, vibrant and academically flourishing EUSP a much wider scope and deeper meaning.
