Prior to joining EUSP in August 2008, Dr. Sergey Erofeev has extensively contributed to various research projects and publications. During his work in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia, he established and still directs the well-known Center for the Sociology of Culture at Kazan State University (KSU), a leading Russian state university. As someone who has initiated and coordinated many educational and policy development projects for the Republic of Tatarstan and wider academic networks and who has the experience of former KSU Vice-Provost for International Relations, Dr. Erofeev has been recently invited to direct the reformed IMARES program in St. Petersburg.
Dr. Erofeev is one of the early post-Soviet scholars in the social sciences to have received postgraduate education in the West. During the 2007-2008 academic year, he was selected as the first Humphrey Fellow from Russia specializing in organizational development and performance management in higher education. First a professionally trained concert pianist, and later a scholar of society and culture, Dr. Erofeev has wide experience in directing and coordinating international projects in research and curriculum development sponsored by the EU Tempus program, the Ford Foundation, OSI, the US Department of State etc. Through these projects he has developed a scholarly emphasis on internationalization and innovation through inter-disciplinary cooperation. In his scholarly work as a sociologist, Dr. Erofeev focuses on the sociology of culture (conducting both theoretical and empirical research), education, media, the arts, and inter-ethnic communication.
